Neighborhood Info Hammonds Plains
Hammonds Plains and Tantallon are the areas outside of Halifax at exit #5 of of Highway 103. It is located south and west of Bedford. There are five main subdivisions that are worth noting - Haliburton Hills, Highland Park, Westwood Hills, White Hills, and Glen Arbour. Haliburton is a subdivision that features housing of around 10 years of age and is located around a number of lakes that frame the scenery. The homes are on large (acre sized) lots and are typically in the $250k to $350k range. Westwood Hills is located just behind the newly build St. Margaret's Center, a community center which features ice rinks, basketball courts and a number of other community functions. It is comprised of single family homes, typically under 10 years old, and primarily featuring acre+ sized lots. Highland Park features smaller lots than Haliburton and Westwood, usually about half an acre. Also located near the St. Margaret's Center. White Hills subdivision is largely comprised of very new construction with most of the housing in this neighborhood being under five years old, and with plenty of lots left for new construction. Largely built by RAMAR construction, a highly thought of builder in the area, this subdivision features split entry and 2-storey homes on large (acre sized) lots, and is well treed by the natural forest out of which the area was cleared. Glen Arbour, one of the most prestigious subdivisions in all of HRM, is focused around Glen Arbour Golf Course, Home of the 2005 BMO Canadian Women's Open. Glen Arbour features large homes, typically of the 2-storey single family variety, on large (acre sized) lots. The housing is under 20 years old. One of the key features of the subdivision is that all residents (based upon street address) receive two memberships for the championship golf course. There have recently been executive townhouses built along the golf course as well. Housing prices in Glen Arbour typically start at $400k and go up from there. |
Fast Facts: Driving Distance: Hammonds Plains accesses the Downtown region by a number of different ways. Folks from White Hills and Glen Arbour would typically head along Hammonds Plains rd. to the 102, while those in Haliburton and Westwood will take the 103, which they are very close to the entry of.
