Thinking
of Selling? Landscape with these Tips!
As we approach the spring months
again (yes, they will come), it is important for those who are thinking
of selling this spring to remember that the first impression that people
will often get of your home may not be the home itself, but the yard and
garden that surround it! It is important to remember a few great tips
for ensuring that you leave a positive, and lasting, first impression.
- Nobody likes
Weeds – the absolute bare minimum that you should do is clean up around
your yard, and try to get all the weeds out from places like your front
walk, driveway cracks, patio tiles etc. All of these areas are high
traffic areas, and if they are not properly tended to, can leave a sense
of poor maintenance about the house itself.
- Keep It Simple
– although a large garden, with thousands of annuals, rare plants, bushes
or trees can be magnificent when in full bloom, it can actually turn
some buyers off to think of the immense amount of maintenance that goes
into taking care of a garden like that. If you are thinking of adding
to your garden, keep it simple – things like Hostas are fabulous for
adding to the street appeal of your home, and are extremely low maintenance.
- Find a Focal
Point – whether it is a nice water feature, a Particular flower bed,
the large oak tree, or the deck that you have out back, it is important
to determine what the best feature of your property is, and play it
up! Draw attention to it with bright colored flowers, flower pots,
or lighting at night.
If you are
gardening in a small, city-sized back yard, it is very important to keep
things small. You don’t want a flower bed to completely overpower the
entire yard, because if someone doesn’t like it – they will see it as
a huge project to change!
All this being said however, it is important that you enjoy what you are
putting into your garden. The benefits of gardening cannot simply be
measured by how they look, but also how they make you feel, and chances
are, if you feel good about it when you drive up to the house, so will
your potential buyer!

Keep it simple - a large garden can
look magniicient, but can also scare off some buyers with the maintenance
involved!
